Target Information
Anaplastic Lymphoma Receptor Tyrosine Kinase (ALK) belongs to the insulin receptor superfamily and plays a vital role in brain development. Mutations, rearrangements, and amplifications in the ALK gene have been associated with various tumors, including anaplastic large cell lymphoma, neuroblastoma, and non-small cell lung cancer. The most common genetic alteration involves chromosomal rearrangement forming a fusion gene between ALK and nucleophosmin (NPM). The NPM-ALK fusion product is oncogenic. ALK is a receptor protein-tyrosine kinase with a transmembrane and extracellular domain, which are absent in the NPM-ALK product. It shows high sequence similarity to LTK and influences neuronal development and function.
