Target Information
Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) is a chymotrypsin-like serine protease belonging to the kallikrein family, produced by the prostate epithelium and abundant in seminal fluid. PSA is detectable in the sera of patients with prostatic carcinoma and is primarily complexed with alpha-1-antichymotrypsin (ACT). A higher proportion of PSA-ACT complex is found in prostate cancer compared to benign prostatic hyperplasia. PSA serves as a marker for confirming prostatic acinar cell origin in primary and metastatic carcinoma and for distinguishing non-prostatic carcinoma mimics.
