Ribosomes are organelles that catalyze protein synthesis, consisting of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit. These subunits are composed of 4 RNA species and approximately 80 distinct proteins. The RPL4 gene encodes a ribosomal protein that is a component of the 60S subunit and belongs to the L4E family. It is located in the cytoplasm. As typical for ribosomal protein genes, multiple processed pseudogenes are dispersed throughout the genome.
