Target Information
The GABRE gene encodes the epsilon subunit of the gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) A receptor, a ligand-gated chloride channel that mediates fast inhibitory synaptic transmission in the central nervous system.
This gene is located on chromosome Xq28, clustered with genes encoding alpha 3, beta 4, and theta subunits.
Alternative splicing variants exist, but only one is known to encode a functional protein.
