Target Information
The OPRM1 gene encodes the mu opioid receptor, which is the primary site of action for opioids such as morphine, heroin, fentanyl, and methadone. It also serves as the receptor for endogenous opioid peptides beta-endorphin and enkephalins. OPRM1 is a G protein-coupled receptor, one of three major opioid receptor types (mu, kappa, delta), each with distinct pharmacologic profiles.
