Target Information
Cytokeratin 8 (CK8) is a member of the type II keratin family located on chromosome 12. Type I and II keratins heteropolymerize to form intermediate filaments in epithelial cells. CK8 typically dimerizes with keratin 18 to form filaments in simple epithelial cells. This protein contributes to cellular structural integrity, signal transduction, and differentiation. Mutations in CK8 are associated with cryptogenic cirrhosis.
