Target Information
Duck plague (DP) is an acute contagious disease that is highly lethal in all ages of birds from the order Anseriformes (ducks, geese, and swans). It is characterized by tissue hemorrhage, digestive mucosal eruptions, lesions of lymphoid organs, and degenerative changes in parenchymatous organs.
The virus can establish an asymptomatic carrier state in both domestic and wild waterfowl, detectable only during intermittent shedding. Duck plague has caused significant economic losses in the commercial duck industry due to high mortality and reduced egg production.
