Store vial at 4°C prior to restoration. For extended storage, aliquot contents and freeze at -20°C or below. Avoid freeze/thaw cycles. Centrifuge product if not completely clear after standing at room temperature. This product is stable for several weeks at 4°C as an undiluted liquid. Dilute only prior to immediate use.

Anti-Transferrin Antibody is an IgG fraction antibody purified from monospecific antiserum by a multi-step process including delipidation, salt fractionation, and ion exchange chromatography, followed by extensive dialysis against the specified buffer. Assay by immunoelectrophoresis resulted in a single precipitin arc against anti-Rabbit Serum as well as purified and partially purified Transferrin (Human Serum). Cross-reactivity against Transferrin from other tissues and species may occur but has not been specifically determined.

Target Information

Transferrins (Tf) are approximately 80 kDa blood plasma glycoproteins synthesized by the liver. They are iron-binding transport proteins capable of binding two Fe(3+) ions with associated anions (usually bicarbonate). Transferrin is responsible for transporting iron from absorption and heme degradation sites to storage and utilization sites. Under normal conditions, about one-third of total blood transferrin contains bound iron. Measurement of transferrin levels can indicate blood iron-carrying capacity and abnormalities such as anemia, iron overload, and hemochromatosis. Serum transferrin may also play a role in stimulating cell proliferation.
