Target Information

SARS-CoV-2 (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2), also known as 2019-nCoV, causes illnesses ranging from mild cold-like symptoms to severe respiratory distress. The Spike Protein consists of S1 and S2 domains and serves as the main surface antigen of the coronavirus. The glycosylated Spike protein and nucleocapsid protein can be detected in infected cells using antisera from SARS patients.
The S1 domain contains a receptor-binding domain (RBD) that specifically binds to ACE2 receptors on target cells. Variations in the Spike protein contribute to differences in receptor interactions and viral fusion mechanisms among coronaviruses.
