Cadherins are a family of calcium-dependent adhesion molecules that mediate cell-cell binding critical for structural maintenance and morphogenesis.
Cadherin-16 (Ksp-Cadherin) is a type I membrane protein expressed specifically in the kidney, localized to the basolateral membrane of renal tubular epithelial cells.
The human CDH16 gene maps to chromosome 16q21–q22, while the mouse homolog is located on distal chromosome 8.
