Target Information
SETD8 is a histone methyltransferase that specifically monomethylates Lys-20 of histone H4. This modification is enriched during mitosis and acts as a tag for epigenetic transcriptional repression. SETD8 mainly functions in euchromatin regions, playing a key role in silencing euchromatic genes and maintaining proper higher-order DNA structure during mitosis. It is also involved in chromosome condensation and cytokinesis. Nucleosomes are preferred substrates compared to free histones.
