Target Information
RGS13 is the smallest member of the mammalian RGS (regulators of G protein-signaling) family, homologous to yeast SST2 and C. elegans egl-10 proteins. RGS proteins attenuate G protein-mediated pathways by acting as GTPase-activating proteins (GAPs) for Ga subunits.
RGS13 is most abundantly expressed in human tonsil, thymus, lung, lymph node, and spleen. It regulates Gai, Gaq, and Gas coupled signaling cascades, functioning as a GTPase-activating protein for Gai and Gao.
The protein inhibits MAPK activity induced by Gai- or Gaq-coupled receptors and attenuates cAMP response element activation mediated by GTPase-deficient Gaq (GaqQL).
The human RGS13 gene is localized on chromosome 1q31.2.
