RGS (Regulator of G protein signaling) 단백질은 G 단백질의 신호전달 조절에 관여하는 GTPase 활성화 단백질(GAP)로 작용합니다. SST2 (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) 및 EGL-10 (Caenorhabditis elegans)과 구조적 상동성을 가지며, 고등 진핵생물에서 여러 유사 유전자가 존재합니다.
Human RGS5 mRNA는 심장, 폐, 골격근, 소장에서 높게 발현되며, 뇌, 태반, 간, 대장, 백혈구에서는 낮은 수준으로 발현됩니다.
