Target Information
MAOB (Monoamine Oxidase B) is an enzyme encoded by the MAOB gene located on Xp11.3. It belongs to the flavin monoamine oxidase family and catalyzes the oxidative deamination of biogenic and xenobiotic amines. MAOB plays a crucial role in the metabolism of neuroactive and vasoactive amines in the central nervous system and peripheral tissues.
It preferentially degrades benzylamine and phenylethylamine and also degrades dopamine. Inhibition of MAO-B enhances dopamine activity and reduces hydrogen peroxide production, impacting oxidative stress and neurochemical balance.
