Target Information
MettL7A belongs to the methyltransferase superfamily and is a probable methyltransferase. Methyltransferases transfer a methyl group from a donor to an acceptor, often on nucleic bases in DNA or amino acids in proteins. DNA methylation is commonly used to regulate gene expression without altering the DNA sequence and is essential for normal embryonic development in mammals. Deficiency in DNA methyltransferase can cause lethal phenotypes in mice. Aberrant methylation of tumor suppressor genes may contribute to cancer development by promoting tumorigenesis and metastasis.
