Product Specific Information

Prostate-specific antigen (PSA), also known as kallikrein III, seminin, semenogelase, gamma-seminoprotein, and P-30 antigen, is a serine protease enzyme produced by prostate gland cells. Most PSA in blood is bound to serum proteins (total PSA), while a small free fraction exists as free PSA. PSA liquefies semen and facilitates sperm motility. Elevated PSA levels are associated with prostate cancer and other prostate disorders. PSA testing is widely used for early detection and monitoring of prostate cancer progression.

GenScript Human PSA Antibody, mAb, Mouse is produced from the hybridoma resulting from fusion of SP2/0-Ag14 myeloma and B-lymphocytes obtained from mouse immunized with human total PSA purified from seminal plasma.

Target Information

PSA is a chymotrypsin-like serine protease of the kallikrein family, produced by the prostate epithelium and abundant in seminal fluid. It can be detected in sera of patients with prostatic carcinoma, predominantly complexed to alpha-1-antichymotrypsin (ACT). A higher proportion of PSA-ACT complex is observed in prostate cancer compared to benign prostatic hyperplasia. PSA serves as a marker to confirm prostatic origin in carcinoma and to differentiate from non-prostatic mimics.
