Target Information
CD14 is a 55 kDa GPI-anchored glycoprotein constitutively expressed on the surface of mature monocytes, macrophages, and neutrophils. It functions as a multifunctional lipopolysaccharide receptor and is released into the serum in secreted or cleaved forms. CD14 binds lipopolysaccharides in a reaction catalyzed by lipopolysaccharide-binding protein (LBP), contributing to immune recognition and neutralization of bacterial components. Soluble CD14 can distinguish structural differences in lipopolysaccharides and plays roles in inflammatory and infectious processes. Dysregulation of CD14 is associated with conditions such as Mycobacterium chelonae infection and croup.
