Target Information
This gene is a paralog of the SMN1 gene, which encodes the survival motor neuron protein. Mutations in SMN1 cause autosomal recessive proximal spinal muscular atrophy. The SMNDC1 gene encodes a nuclear protein that is a constituent of the spliceosome complex, showing differential expression with abundant levels in skeletal muscle, and may share similar cellular functions with SMN1.
