Target Information
The six-transmembrane epithelial antigen of prostate 3 (STEAP3) is part of a metalloreductase family identified as cell-surface antigens in prostate tissue. Like STEAP2 and STEAP4, STEAP3 promotes iron and copper reduction. It is highly expressed in hematopoietic tissues and colocalizes with the transferrin endosome. Overexpression enhances iron reduction, while STEAP3 deficiency leads to reduced erythroid ferrireductase activity, indicating its role as an endosomal ferrireductase essential for transferrin-dependent iron uptake in erythroid cells.
