Target Information

MLH1 is a DNA mismatch repair protein. The repair of mismatched DNA is essential to maintaining the integrity of genetic information over time. Alterations of microsatellite repeats result from slippage during DNA replication, referred to as microsatellite instability (MSI). Defects in DNA repair pathways have been linked to human carcinogenesis, notably hereditary nonpolyposis colon cancer (HNPC). MSH2 is involved in the initial recognition of mismatched nucleotides, and after binding to a mismatched DNA duplex, it forms a heterodimer with MLH1 and PMSH to facilitate subsequent repair steps.
