Target Information
TAS2R41 is a receptor that may play a role in the perception of bitterness and belongs to the G-protein receptor superfamily.
It is expressed mainly in taste receptor cells of the tongue and palate epithelia. Structurally, the TAS2R41 gene encodes a seven transmembrane receptor protein and is clustered with eight other taste receptor genes on chromosome 7.
Chloramphenicol acts as an agonist for TAS2R41. The receptor may be involved in sensing the chemical composition of gastrointestinal content and mediates PLC-beta-2 activation leading to TRPM5 gating.
TAS2R41 is expressed in subsets of taste receptor cells of the tongue, exclusively in gustducin-positive cells, and may help discriminate among bitter stimuli.
