Product Specific Information
This peptide corresponds to 20 amino acids near the amino terminus of human SYNPO2.
PEP-1169 can be used as a blocking peptide with polyclonal antibody PA5-21055.
Target Information
SYNPO2 was initially identified as myopodin, a member of the synaptopodin family containing one PPXY motif and multiple PXXP motifs. It colocalizes with alpha-actinin and is found at the Z-disc. Under stress conditions, it translocates to the nucleus, suggesting a role in signaling pathways in addition to its structural functions.
SYNPO2 binds to calmodulin, alpha-actinin, and smooth muscle myosin, stimulating actin polymerization in a calmodulin-dependent manner. This supports its proposed role in cytoskeletal organization.
While deletion of SYNPO2 has been correlated with prostate cancer invasiveness, other studies suggest that down-regulation may reduce invasiveness and motility of prostate cancer cells.
