Target Information

Nebulin is a giant cytoskeletal protein that coexists with thick and thin filaments within skeletal muscle sarcomeres. It accounts for 3–4% of total myofibrillar protein in most vertebrates. The protein includes ~30 amino acid modules classified into 7 types and other repeats. Isoform sizes range from 600–800 kDa due to tissue-, species-, and developmental stage-specific alternative splicing. Of the 183 exons, at least 43 are alternatively spliced. Mutations in the nebulin gene are linked to recessive nemaline myopathy.
