RAD51은 상동 DNA 사이의 상동성 인식 및 가닥 교환을 촉진하여 손상된 DNA 절편과 복구 서열 간의 결합체를 형성합니다. 또한 ATP 의존적으로 단일 가닥 DNA에 결합하여 상동성 탐색과 가닥 교환에 필수적인 뉴클레오단백질 필라멘트를 형성합니다. RAD51 유전자의 돌연변이는 유방암, mirror movements 2, Fanconi anemia 등과 관련이 있습니다.
