HSP60 유전자는 샤페로닌(chaperonin) 계열 단백질을 암호화하며, 미토콘드리아 내 단백질의 접힘 및 조립에 필수적입니다. 이 단백질은 선천면역계의 신호 전달 분자로 작용할 수 있으며, 관련 유사유전자(pseudogene)들이 존재합니다. 두 가지 전사 변이가 동일한 단백질을 암호화하며, 이 유전자 변이는 상염색체 열성 유전 질환인 Spastic Paraplegia 13과 관련이 있습니다.
