Target Information
The HSP60 gene encodes a mitochondrial chaperonin protein that assists in the folding and assembly of newly imported proteins within mitochondria. It may also act as a signaling molecule in the innate immune system. The gene is located adjacent to a related family member, with the intergenic region functioning as a bidirectional promoter. Several pseudogenes are associated with this gene, and two transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified. Mutations in this gene are linked to autosomal recessive spastic paraplegia 13.
