Target Information
Peroxins (PEXs) are proteins essential for the assembly of functional peroxisomes. Peroxisome biogenesis disorders (PBDs) are genetically heterogeneous, autosomal recessive, and lethal diseases characterized by multiple defects in peroxisome function. These disorders include at least 14 complementation groups, with varying phenotypes. Cells from all PBD patients exhibit defects in the import of peroxisomal matrix proteins into the organelle.
