Target Information

The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the DEAD-box protein family, characterized by the conserved Asp-Glu-Ala-Asp (DEAD) motif. It exhibits ATP-dependent RNA helicase activity and RNA-independent ATPase activity. Unlike most DEAD-box helicases, its ATPase activity is stimulated by both RNA and DNA.
This protein functions in both nucleus and cytoplasm—participating in transcriptional regulation, mRNP assembly, pre-mRNA splicing, mRNA export, translation, cellular signaling, and viral replication. Misregulation has been implicated in tumorigenesis. The gene has a paralog on the Y chromosome, and pseudogenes are found on chromosome 4 and the X chromosome. Alternative splicing produces multiple transcript variants.
