Target Information
NUDT5 functions as an enzyme that can act as an ADP-sugar pyrophosphatase in the absence of diphosphate or catalyze the synthesis of ATP in the presence of diphosphate. It hydrolyzes various modified nucleoside diphosphates such as ADP-ribose, ADP-mannose, ADP-glucose, 8-oxo-GDP, and 8-oxo-dGDP. Additionally, it can hydrolyze other nucleotide sugars with low activity. In the presence of diphosphate, it mediates ATP synthesis in the nucleus by converting ADP-ribose to ATP and ribose 5-phosphate. Nuclear ATP synthesis occurs when dephosphorylated at Thr-45 and is essential for energy-consuming chromatin remodeling events. NUDT5 binds U8 snoRNA but does not play a role in U8 snoRNA decapping activity.
