Target Information

Huntingtin disease, a neurodegenerative disorder, is caused by the expansion of a polymorphic glutamine tract in huntingtin. The Huntingtin Interacting Protein 1 (HIP-1) is a proapoptotic, cargo-specific adaptor protein potentially involved in the pathogenesis of Huntingtin disease. HIP-1 also plays a role in clathrin coat recruitment to lipid membranes and may contribute to tumorigenesis by supporting survival of precancerous and cancerous cells. Its expression is significantly associated with prostate and colon cancer metastasis, making HIP-1 a putative prognostic factor for these cancers.
