Target Information

BMPR1A is a Type I member of the TGF-beta receptor superfamily of transmembrane serine/threonine kinases that phosphorylates intracellular SMADs in response to bone morphogenic proteins. These receptors are closely related to the activin receptors, ACVR1 and ACVR2. Ligands of these receptors belong to the TGF-beta superfamily. TGF-betas and activins transduce signals through heteromeric complexes of type I and type II serine/threonine kinase receptors. Type II receptors bind ligands independently but require type I receptors for signaling, while type I receptors need type II receptors for ligand binding.
