Target Information
Lysozyme is an enzyme that cleaves the β(1–4) glycosidic linkages between N-acetylmuramic acid and N-acetylglucosamine in bacterial cell wall peptidoglycan. It functions as an antimicrobial agent found in human milk, spleen, lung, kidney, white blood cells, plasma, saliva, and tears.
Missense mutations in LYZ have been associated with heritable renal amyloidosis.
