Target Information
The type I interferons (IFN-α and IFN-β) are structurally and functionally related proteins induced by viruses or double-stranded RNA. They confer antiviral states in cells and bind to a common cell surface receptor (IFN-α/βR).
This receptor exists as two alternatively spliced transcripts, IFN-α/βR1 and IFN-α/βR2, both involved in signal transduction and ligand binding.
