S100 유전자는 염색체 1q21에 클러스터로 존재하는 최소 13개의 구성원을 포함합니다.
S100A6 단백질은 Ca²⁺ 의존적 인슐린 분비, 프로락틴 분비, 및 세포 외분비를 자극하는 기능을 가질 수 있습니다.
이 유전자의 염색체 재배열 및 발현 변화는 흑색종과 관련이 있는 것으로 보고되었습니다.
