Target Information
DEAD box proteins, characterized by the conserved motif Asp-Glu-Ala-Asp, are putative RNA helicases. They are involved in RNA secondary structure alterations such as translation initiation, splicing, and ribosome assembly.
Some members are associated with embryogenesis, spermatogenesis, and cellular growth.
This gene encodes a DEAD box protein homologous to VASA proteins in Drosophila and other species, specifically expressed in germ cell lineages and essential for germ cell development.
Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
