Target Information
Napsin 1 is an aspartic protease primarily expressed in the lung, and also present in kidney and metastatic carcinomas. It processes surfactant protein B in pulmonary and renal tissues but becomes dysregulated in carcinogenesis. Napsin evaluation aids in identifying several cancers and differentiating primary tumors from metastases. Combined with thyroid transcription factor analysis, Napsin serves as a specific biomarker for carcinoma differentiation. It is also associated with pulmonary alveolar proteinosis and protein catabolism in renal tubules.
