Target Information
Viperin is a 43 kDa interferon-inducible viral protein. Its expression is elevated by LPS and poly I:C through TLR-dependent signaling pathways. Sendai virus-mediated viperin expression occurs independently of TLR signaling via RLRs (RIG-I and MAVs).
Viperin plays a key role in interferon-mediated antiviral activity, especially in Hepatitis C virus models. It is induced in lymphoid and dendritic cells and highly expressed in neutrophils and macrophages during acute LCMV infection in mice.
Viperin functions as a mediator of viral resistance and serves as a marker for interferon responsiveness, making it valuable for research on antiviral mechanisms.
