Target Information
SP1 is a transcription factor that can activate or repress transcription in response to physiological and pathological stimuli. It binds with high affinity to GC-rich motifs and regulates the expression of numerous genes involved in processes such as cell growth, apoptosis, differentiation, and immune responses. SP1 activity is highly regulated by post-translational modifications including phosphorylation, sumoylation, proteolytic cleavage, glycosylation, and acetylation. It also binds the PDGFR-alpha G-box promoter and may modulate cellular responses to DNA damage. SP1 is implicated in chromatin remodeling and plays a role in the recruitment of SMARCA4/BRG1 on the c-FOS promoter, being essential for FE65 gene regulation.
