Target Information
A-kinase anchor proteins (AKAPs) are structurally diverse proteins that bind to the regulatory subunit of protein kinase A (PKA), localizing the holoenzyme within specific cellular compartments.
The AKAP13 gene encodes a member of this family, with multiple transcript variants resulting from alternative splicing. These isoforms contain C-terminal dbl oncogene homology (DH) and pleckstrin homology (PH) domains.
- The DH domain mediates guanine nucleotide exchange activation for Rho/Rac family GTPases, converting them to their active forms.
- The PH domain contributes to multiple cellular functions.
Together, AKAP13 isoforms act as scaffolding proteins that coordinate Rho signaling pathways, anchor PKA, and enhance ligand-dependent activity of estrogen receptors α and β.
