Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene functions as both a phosphodiesterase and a phospholipase, catalyzing the production of lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) in extracellular fluids. LPA evokes growth factor-like responses including stimulation of cell proliferation and chemotaxis. This gene product promotes tumor cell motility and angiogenesis and is upregulated in several carcinomas. The protein is secreted and processed into a biologically active form, with several alternatively spliced transcript variants identified.
