Store vial at -20°C prior to opening. Aliquot contents and freeze at -20°C or below for extended storage. Avoid cycles of freezing and thawing. Centrifuge product if not completely clear after standing at room temperature. This product is stable for several weeks at 4°C as an undiluted liquid. Dilute only prior to immediate use.

This affinity-purified antibody is directed against human ATF3 and is useful in determining its presence in various assays including ELISA and western blotting. This polyclonal antibody recognizes over-expressed ATF3 protein found in various expression systems. Reactivity is observed against human ATF3. Cross reactivity with ATF3 from other mammalian sources has not been tested.

Target Information

ATF3 (Activating Transcription Factor 3) is a member of the mammalian activation transcription factor/cAMP responsive element-binding (CREB) protein family of transcription factors. It encodes a protein with a calculated molecular mass of 22 kD. ATF3 represses rather than activates transcription from promoters with ATF binding elements.
An alternatively spliced form of ATF3 (ATF3 delta Zip) encodes a truncated form of ATF3 protein lacking the leucine zipper protein-dimerization motif and does not bind to DNA. In contrast to ATF3, ATF3 delta Zip stimulates transcription presumably by sequestering inhibitory co-factors away from the promoter.
Alternative splicing of the ATF3 gene may be physiologically important in the regulation of target genes. Three transcript variants encoding two different isoforms have been found for this gene.
