Target Information
Neuronal pentraxin (NPTX) 2 is a member of the pentraxin family, showing high homology to NPTX1. Unlike NPTX1, NPTX2 is expressed in testes, pancreas, liver, heart, skeletal muscle, and brain. It possesses lectin properties common to pentraxins, promotes neurite outgrowth, and is regulated by neuronal activity. NPTX1 and NPTX2 form heterocomplexes contributing to excitatory synaptogenesis. NPTX2 is upregulated in Parkinsonian substantia nigra and localizes to Lewy bodies and neurites, suggesting involvement in Parkinson’s disease pathway dysregulation.
