Target Information
Interleukin-4 (IL-4) is a pleiotropic, immune-modulatory cytokine produced by activated T cells, and serves as a ligand for interleukin 4 receptor. IL-4 has a broad range of biological actions and also binds to IL13 receptor, leading to overlapping functions with IL-13. STAT6 plays a key role in mediating IL-4 signaling. The IL-4 gene is part of a cytokine cluster with IL-3, IL-5, IL-13, and CSF2 on chromosome 5q, and is closely located near IL13. IL-4, IL13, and IL5 expression is coordinated by long-range regulatory elements. IL-4 delta 2 is a known splice variant of IL-4.
