Target Information
Aurora kinases associate with microtubules during chromosome movement and segregation.
AURKB (Aurora B) localizes to microtubules near kinetochores, specifically to K-fibers. This complex functions in chromosome alignment, separation, histone modification, and cytokinesis.
The chromosomal passenger complex (CPC) includes three non-enzymatic subunits — INCENP, survivin, and borealin — which regulate the activity, localization, and stability of Aurora B. Two CPCs exist during mitosis: one containing all four members and another consisting of INCENP and Aurora B. The full CPC functions during chromosome alignment and cytokinesis, while the INCENP–AurB complex may modify histone H3.
AurB is overexpressed in several tumors, including primary breast and colon cancers, and may be linked with Aurora-A kinase through a feedback mechanism.
