Target Information

The type II cAMP-protein kinase (PKA) is a multifunctional kinase with a broad range of substrates. Specificity of PKA signaling is mediated by compartmentalization of the kinase within the cell. The R subunit (RII) of PKA interacts with RII-anchoring proteins, collectively known as A-kinase anchoring proteins (AKAPs).
AKAP95, also known as AKAP8, is a nuclear matrix protein predominantly expressed in liver, heart, pancreas, kidney, and skeletal muscle. During mitosis, AKAP95 is recruited to chromosomes and plays an essential role in mitotic progression. It participates in PKA signaling through interaction with the RII regulatory subunit and forms a complex with HA95 and HDAC3, required for deacetylation of Histone H3 during mitosis.
