Target Information
Caveolin-3 (CAV3) acts as a scaffolding protein within the caveolar membrane and interacts directly with G-protein alpha subunits to regulate their activity. It may also modulate voltage-gated potassium channels and plays a crucial role in sarcolemma repair mechanisms in skeletal muscle and cardiomyocytes. Additionally, Caveolin-3 mediates the recruitment of CAVIN2 and CAVIN3 proteins to caveolae. Mutations in the CAV3 gene are associated with HyperCKmia, rippling muscle disease 2, cardiomyopathy, long QT syndrome 9, sudden infant death syndrome, and myopathy.
