Glutathione S-transferase M3 (brain), also known as GSTM3, is an enzyme encoded by the GSTM3 gene in humans. Cytosolic and membrane-bound forms of glutathione S-transferase are encoded by two distinct supergene families. Eight distinct classes of soluble cytoplasmic mammalian glutathione S-transferases have been identified: alpha, kappa, mu, omega, pi, sigma, theta, and zeta.

GSTM3 belongs to the mu class, which functions in detoxifying electrophilic compounds including carcinogens, therapeutic drugs, environmental toxins, and oxidative stress products by conjugation with glutathione. The mu class genes are organized in a cluster on chromosome 1p13.3 and are highly polymorphic. These variations can influence susceptibility to carcinogens and toxins, as well as drug efficacy and toxicity. Mutations in this gene have been associated with a slight increase in certain cancers, likely due to environmental toxin exposure.
