Target Information

The DAXX gene encodes a multifunctional protein localized in both the nucleus and cytoplasm. It interacts with various proteins such as apoptosis antigen Fas, centromere protein C, and transcription factor E26 oncogene homolog 1. In the nucleus, DAXX acts as a transcription repressor binding to sumoylated transcription factors, with repression relieved by sequestration into promyelocytic leukemia nuclear bodies or nucleoli. It associates with centromeres during G2 phase and may regulate apoptosis in the cytoplasm. Its localization and function are influenced by post-translational modifications including sumoylation, phosphorylation, and polyubiquitination. Multiple transcript variants arise from alternative splicing.
