Target Information
Tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily member 18 (TNFRSF18), also known as GITR or AITR, is a human protein encoded by the TNFRSF18 gene located at 1p36.33.
This receptor belongs to the TNF-receptor superfamily and its expression increases upon T-cell activation. It plays a key role in maintaining immunological self-tolerance mediated by CD25(+)CD4(+) regulatory T cells.
Mouse knockout studies indicate that TNFRSF18 is involved in regulating CD3-driven T-cell activation and programmed cell death.
Three alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been reported.
