Gene Map Locus: 17q23.3
Members of the STE-20 like kinase family stimulate MAPK pathways by directly activating MAPKKK. STRAD is a pseudokinase member lacking catalytic residues but specifically binds LKB1, regulating its tumor suppressor activities. It acts as an upstream activator of LKB1 and controls its subcellular localization by anchoring it in the cytoplasm. STRAD-LKB1 interaction enhances phosphorylation and autophosphorylation of LKB1.
